2023 changes
Self development
What changes will you make to achieve your goals?
Here are my 5 top tips for your best year yet.
1. create vision boards
2. be delusional
3. cut people off
4. let it go
5. just start - LESS PLANNING
pro tip: what you don't feel like doing is EXACTLY what you should do
If you're procrastinating; you're on your phone scrolling or maybe watching series, or just laying down, and you "can't seem to get going" but you know deep down exactly what you SHOULD do - get up and do that. It seems logical, like "Nela well yeah, but I can't and that's the problem" the problem is in your head. The longer it takes for you to get up the more challenging this "problem" is. And that goes for school, life responsibilities or just simply taking a shower or taking your makeup off at the end of the day..
Example: You just got home, you're extremely tired, all you want to do is lay down and fall asleep, but you KNOW you have to take a shower and wash your teeth and do your skincare (or whatever).. So what do you do? You surely don't go to bed without doing all of that, so you take out your phone and you wait until you get enough energy to move. Of course, when actually do get up - you end up feeling even more tired and dissatisfied that you've just spent all that time procrastinating when you could've been sleeping.
You knew that taking that shower was a must in that situation. Stop putting it off and start "getting up" to do the things you don't want to do. This will build up your discipline, confidence and overall success (even if it's as small as having a successful moment in the day).
Also, you know those days when you find yourself with a bit more spare time and possibly even bored not knowing what to do, but again, knowing what should be done... use that thought to decide what you'll do first.
You get a thought -> "I feel stressed about _____ " -> that's the indication of what you should do -> you take a deep breath (inhale, exhale) -> and you get up to do it.
To finish this thought, a quote: “Never put off until tomorrow what can be done today.”- Sensei Wu
back to the main topic..
I'm planning on going in deep on those subjects separately, but I do want to share how implementing these simple actions helped my mindset shift for this year.
1. vision boards
I watched my first video on this topic in 2017 I think and I’ve been making them ever since. So that's since i was 13!! For the first 2 years I literally used google photos and googled exactly what I wanted for that year and I put all of my photos on a powerpoint slide. It was very unaesthetic, but that's how I started. And for those first 2 years I have completely forgotten that I even made them and only at the end of the year I was like "oh wait" I can actually cross some of these things off.
For example, on my first one I think I put that I wanted to have longer, healthier nails. I wanted to grow them out and at the end of the year i realized there were multiple times I was able to keep my natural nails long and pretty.
Your goals or wishes for the year can be as simple as that. I also put that I wanted to be tidier with my room and that I wanted to become fitter and just start working out and guess what! That was the year when I fell in love with working out.
I won't sit here and say “ah yes, create this simple vision board and all your dreams will magically come true” but it HELPS.
I will have a seperate post about vision boards on how to create them, what to focus on, where to find your photos and how to actually even use them for accomplishing your goals, but that’s definitely my “must do” at the beginning of every year!!
next,
2. be delusional
This one goes hand in hand with the first one. One of my simple rules of life is if it makes you happy and doesn’t harm anyone, do it. And being delusional about your dreams and goals harms no one but can significantly up your chances of success. To be fair, success means different things to different people and it’s very personal. Some people have simple dreams that they already know they can achieve without being “delusional” and that's great, but if you’re not one of them, start imagining yourself in the most “extreme” or “unrealisticly good” situations. Its the same as "fake it till you make it". Just like they say for confidence you have to act like it and then you become it. Even though at first it's uncomfortable, if you stay consistent with your “confident” attitude you will eventually become confident and it won't seem as such a far and distant goal, THE SAME GOES WITH EVERYTHING ELSE!!
Be delusional with your goals!!!!! Don't limit yourself!! Why wouldn’t you have EVERYTHING you wish?????? There is literally no reason. I will also make a separate post for this (i will link everything once I do) and i'll explain more about this, but you tried selling yourself short so many times, don't you wanna see what would happen if you started thinking bigger?
3. cut!! people!! off!!!!
That's it, that's the post.
Be selfish with your time. Be selfish with your energy. Be selfish with your presence!!!
Not everyone deserves you. It's that simple. If they’re disturbing your peace more than adding to the quality of your life, take this as a sign.
4. learn to let go!
The stuff that is out of your control - LET IT GO!! You have 2 options here: resist and continue complaining about it, or accept what cannot be changed and let it be. I can PROMISE you that accepting what truly cannot be changed will be much more beneficial to your overall health than resisting and overthinking. Yes, stuff happens, but guess what; 10% is what happens to you, 90% is how you react to it. And research has shown (a girl on TikTok, no research here but it makes sense) that the happy millionaires got to where they are through making the best of every situation, not taking life that seriously and having fun in every situation!!
another thought i would like to add thats maybe a little off topic.. Something I dislike is that often, just because you're being or you're focusing on the positive, people think you have it easy.
With that in mind, get out of your own way. You can “have it easy” too. Get over yourself. Let it go.
and for the last one..
5. LESS PLANNING MORE ACTION
So many people on the internet are coming up with new planners, ways of planning and how you should write everything down and explain it in details etc. But honestly, 9/10 times when I get excited about planning something new or simply making a to-do list longer than 1 goal to check off - I never finish it. Maybe it's a personal problem, but I think that sometimes when I write the goal out very detailed or simply I say “yes, tomorrow i'm doing this, this and this” I subconsciously check it off in my head before even doing it. It's as if I get the satisfaction of doing it while planning and then rarely subconsciously see the need to go through with the plan. BUT. If I were to get an idea of something I want to check off in the next/next few days, I write it down on a blank piece of paper. I write my goal or idea of what i want to implement in my life without much planning on how, but rather just having it as a reminder so i wouldn’t forget so I can start doing it - that's when the real magic happen. The best things for me happen almost unplanned at first. You can look at it this way: I make a vision board, I get my idea clear in my head and I'm set on achieving the goal. I don't talk about it. I don't share my idea. I keep my mouth shut (I used to like oversharing a lot, so if I can do it you can do it too) and I start working. I don't need to set exact time for me to go to the gym the day before, because if I'm really set on going, all I have to do is have an approximate idea of when i’ll have the time to go. Since I know i’m going at some point for sure, there's no need for me to say “ok gym at 4pm” and then come home late and be eating at 4pm, so 5pm it is, but then i'm doing homework, so 6pm? Now does it even make sense of me to go? 7pm rolls around “do I want to go or do I want to go to sleep early? Rest is important too??” no. Stop it.
The moment I realize that I'm enjoying planning a bit too much, or I find myself wanting to share my ideas with anyone - I stop myself because experience has shown me that that is the quickest way to failing in a form of barely even trying.
So that's it? Those 5 changes?
Honestly, these are a great start. These are personal changes that have brought me peace and got me working in December, and so far have been the base for my 2023. I’ll be touching on many other self improvement topics and sharing maybe some interesting stories on different topics, so if you ever need some more inspiration, motivation or maybe even some educational facts to better the quality of your life - you know where to find it. 😉 🙂 (educational because I will be touching on psychology, and no, I'm not qualified, but I do take psychology classes and have watched way too many youtube videos on psychology-based self improvement topics that I feel it won't harm anyone if I share what I've learned)
That would be it from me for this topic, hope you got something out of it and for any questions or comments in general, all my socials and my email address are on the “contact page”! I love reading what y'all have to say!
